Jason C. Vargelis – Senior Counsel Practice Focus Education |
Experience
Jason Vargelis is a member of our business transactions group. His
practice is focused in the area of real estate finance with an emphasis on housing
tax credits. Mr. Vargelis has broad experience representing
syndicators and developers in multifamily tax credit projects utilizing a
variety of funding sources, including low income housing tax credits, tax exempt
bond proceeds, HOPE VI funds and state and local housing programs. His
experience covers lower-tier transactions (involving syndicators, developers and
lenders), as well as upper-tier transactions (involving syndicators and
investors).
Mr. Vargelis has represented institutional lenders making loans secured by real estate. In addition, he has represented investment banks and managers in public and private securitizations, including transactions collateralized by commercial and residential mortgages, automobile loans, home equity loans and bonds (collateralized debt obligations).
During law school, Mr. Vargelis served as Editor-in-Chief of the Boston University Law Review. He was then associated with the law firms currently known as Sidley Austin LLP, in New York, Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP, in San Francisco and Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck P.C., in Denver, Colorado. In 2006, he returned to Northern California and joined Carle, Mackie, Power & Ross LLP.
